Making Strides Againist Breast Cancer
The gloomy cloudy skies and the freezing weather seemed to foreshadow a lousy day but no one would guess otherwise at the Woodbury
Common Premium Outlets on October 18, 2009 as people gathered for the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk. Even at seven thirty in
the morning the enthusiasm was contagious as people shook away the numbing cold to walk 5K around the Woodbury Commons. Kids, teenagers
and adults from the Hudson Valley Region came together to get to honor breast cancer survivors, remember loved ones, and raise funds and
awareness to end breast cancer. The MAAWS Youth Group Leader Juhi Mawla and fellow classmates Seher Saeed, Katie Knight, Roxanne
Verrette, Frank Hyunh, Abbas Shikari, and Bianca DiCoco came with the Newburgh Free Academy Science Honor Society. MAAWS Advisor Dr.
Uma Mishra, Oncologist of Orange County Radiation Oncology Center, a flagship sponsor of the walk, told the crowd to spread the word and
create awareness for this disease. Volunteers and cheerleading teams were at various stops along the path cheered the walkers along as the
weather became more dreary. As the rain started to fall harder and harder, the spirits rose higher and higher.
